Text Box: # Virtual Passage
Text Box: in a basic fashion with Virtual Passage is straight forward and will be covered below.

4.1 Use of Force9 with Virtual Passage

You can choose to begin using Force9 in two places in Virtual Passage—the first at the point you select the starting and ending locations for your voyage or after the voyage simulation begins. Force9 is launched by clicking the F9 icon in the Virtual Passage toolbar.

Using Force9 to select starting and ending locations in Screen 4 of Virtual Passage: In beginning your voyage you may want to select your starting position at a very specific location such as your dock on a small body of water such as Puget Sound. If you have a high resolution nautical chart this can be accomplished. In Screen 4 before selecting your start position go to the toolbar and click the F9 icon to launch Force9. Once Force9 is launched resize and move it to the side of Virtual Passage so that the radio buttons for the start and destination are visible (see F9 Screen 1) . The start position radio button should be selected. Go to Force9 and open a chart by selecting the File Menu (a discussion of available charts and choices will be given below). Once a chart is open, resize the chart and center it using the Force9 magnify (zoom) and scrolling commands. After you have chosen the section of the chart where you can see your start position, position the cursor at the start position and right click the mouse. A Waypoint Dialog box will appear (see F9 Screen 2). You can name this point for subsequent use and save it in a waypoint file or simply click OK . After a couple seconds the latitude and longitude of this point will appear in the Start Position boxes in Virtual Passage. If this is not right or you want to reselect the start position go to Force9 and right click on another position (just be sure the start radio button in Virtual Passage stays selected). After you are happy with the start position go to the Virtual Passage screen and select the destination button. Now go to Force9 and right click on the position where you want your first waypoint or destination to be. As before, after you accept OK on the Waypoint Dialog box, the destination latitude and longitude will show in the Virtual Passage screen. You are now ready to go to the next Virtual Passage screen. Keep the Force9 window open since it will be used once the simulation begins. Note you can also go to the Force9 Menu Bar select waypoint and open a waypoint file to specify the starting and destination positions rather than clicking on a chart. This is convenient
