Text Box: # Virtual Passage
Text Box: MENU

File – The File pull down menu allows you to save the current simulation or print the daily voyage file.

Save - You can save the current voyage and then restart from this file. You can also use this saved file to plot a previous voyage.

Print – If you have a printer connected to your computer you can also print a hard copy of your voyage daily log which gives information such as distance traveled and weather
conditions.

Options – The Option pull down menu allows you to use automatic sail trim or a wind steering option.

Automatic Sail Trim –Select either on or off. With sail trim selected on, the sails are automatically trimmed for optimum speed for the wind and heading. Click the in or out sail adjustment to engage the automatic sail trim. You may have to click the sail adjustment (in-out arrows below the sail trim window) to engage.

Wind Steering – This option mimics the behavior of a wind steering device. If wind steering is selected on, then the boats heading is adjusted to maintain a constant wind angle to the sails.

Ship’s Log View – This option allows for the daily log file not to be shown automatically at the end of the day.

Show Winds – This option allows winds to be displayed on top of the main base map. These winds are shown at the actual resolution of the data – unlike the weather map view which only plots every other wind vector. The winds here are also updated every four hours so that the time evolution of the wind field can be seen. An option is also provided to view the wind as vectors or wind barbs. For vectors the wind speed is indicated by the length of the vector. For barbs the wind speed is given by the number of barbs on the tale of the arrow. One full barb is equivalent to 10 kts (5 m/s). A half barb is 5 kts. A full flag is 50 kts of wind.
