Text Box: # Virtual Passage
Text Box: The pace of the simulation is selectable. For the user wanting to “experience” the voyage the pace can be slower so that an Atlantic crossing might take 30-45 minutes. For the user wanting to test strategies, the pace can be accelerated so that the crossing might take 10 minutes of simulation time. The actual speed of the simulation is also somewhat dependent on the speed of the processor and read time of the
CD reader or the hard disk.

2. Installation and Setup

There are several folders shipped on the Virtual Passage CD’s. These are:

“Virtual_Passage.exe” which contains the simulation code and setup files

“VPSail” which contains auxiliary information and images to carry out the simulation.

“1993” which contains the weather data by month for 1993 in unzipped form

“199xZip” which contains the weather data by month for 199x in zipped format

To install Virtual Passages, place the CD Dsk1 in your reader then run x:\ VPSetup.exe from the Start Menu in Windows 95/98/2000 where x is the drive letter for your CD reader. Follow the instructions on the screen. The setup program will install and connect the needed files. A start icon “Virtual Passage” will show up under the Programs option from the Windows 95/98 Start Menu. A stand alone version of Force9 will also be installed.

System Settings

In the Windows Control Panel under Display make sure your screen setting is set to at least 800x600 and small fonts are selected. If you are not in the U.S., at the present you may have to change the Regional Settings in the Windows control panel to the U.S. settings so that dates and data will be interpreted correctly.
